What are Basic Checks and Advanced Checks?

Uptime.com checks are divided into two types: Basic and Advanced. Checks are categorized based on their relative level of complexity, and each subscription plan includes a set number of checks of each type. Check quantities for each monitoring tier can be viewed at the Pricing page. You can also view the number of used and available checks in your account by navigating to Settings > Billing & Subscriptions.

Note: Uptime.com moved to its current billing model on May 21, 2025. If your account was created prior to this date, your account uses the legacy subscription model. Basic and advanced checks have the same technical function regardless of your subscription type, but newer plans offer a more general grouping of check types into Basic/Advanced while the Starter, Essential, and Premium tiers in the legacy model each have their own defined limits.

Basic Checks

Basic checks perform general monitoring functions like checking a webpage for a 200 response (HTTPS), pinging a resource to test response time (Ping/ICMP), and resolving domain name (DNS).

For a full list of basic checks, see our relevant documentation.

Advanced Checks

Advanced checks offer more complex functions such as synthetic monitoring for webpage interactions and user journeys (Transaction), monitoring an API with multiple HTTPS requests (API), and being notified of outages or updates in your third-party dependencies (Cloud Status).

For a full list of advanced checks, see our relevant documentation.
