Uptime.com offers SMS and phone call notifications as part of our alerting services. All accounts have a set number of alerts that can be used for this purpose. SMS and call alert limits are set on a monthly basis (reset on the 1st of each month) and are determined by subscription tier.
For the purposes of calculating usage and limits, each individual phone call or SMS counts toward this limit, whether it is for a DOWN alert or the corresponding UP notification when the check returns back to working status.
For example, if an account has a SMS limit of 20/month, and a check experiences 5 outage events in the month, it is expected that there will be 10 SMS notifications—1 notification when the check first goes DOWN, and another when its status returns to UP per contact with SMS or Call number. This leaves the account with 10/20 SMS alerts left for the month. The same functionality applies to phone alerts.
To view your current limits on SMS and phone alerts, please navigate Settings > Billing & Subscriptions > Account Usage.
FAQ
I have a check setup with the alert method SMS with 5 phone numbers. Will I be charged 5 SMS credits each time this check fails?
You will be charged one SMS credit for each phone number that receives a notification. The same applies for calls.
Note that depending on your setup, you may receive both a DOWN alert when an outage is detected as well as a corresponding UP alert when the check recovers. In this case, there would be 10 total credits used—5 for the DOWN notifications and 5 for the corresponding UP notifications.
