Uptime.com’s Network - HTTP(S) Check is a specialized check type that allows you to monitor service availability and connectivity from ISP-based probe networks across the globe. Unlike traditional monitoring checks that rely on data center locations, Network checks leverage a network of real ISP-connected probes to provide insight into how your services perform across different providers, regions, and user networks.

Network checks are flexible and designed to fit your monitoring needs. Choose specific geographic areas and networks to evaluate connectivity, detect ISP-specific or regional performance issues, and receive alerts through the same communication channels (email, SMS, phone, mobile app, or integrations) already configured for your other Uptime.com checks.

Adding a Network Check
To add a network check, select Network Check from the Check Type drop-down:
Once selected, the required attributes are:
- Check URL
- Check Interval
- Locations
- Network
Selecting Locations
Network Checks allow you to select one or more locations where your check will be executed.
Locations are organized by geographic categories to help you identify the regions where you want to monitor connectivity. You can select locations based on your monitoring needs, including Continents (Europe, Asia, etc.) or more specific Regions (Western Europe, Southern Asia, etc.)
When selecting locations, keep the following in mind:
- Locations represent geographic areas where probes are available
- Location availability depends on active probe servers within the selected region
- Selecting highly specific locations may reduce the number of available probes
Selecting Networks
Network Checks allow you to monitor connectivity from specific ISP-based networks.
Use the Network search field to locate and select one or more available networks. Networks can be searched using flexible search functionality to quickly locate the desired provider.
Once a location is selected, available network results may be filtered based on probe availability within that location.
If your selected location is highly specific and limits the available network list, you may receive a notification that additional networks are available when expanding your geographic selection.
For example, selecting a small geographic area may limit available ISP networks compared to selecting a broader region.
If multiple locations are selected, the available networks will be limited to only those available in all locations.
Note: for location and network combinations with limited probe availability, Uptime.com will display a warning when two or fewer probes are available. Selecting a broader location or additional networks is recommended to improve monitoring reliability.
Configuring Traceroute
Network checks include an optional traceroute setting that provides additional visibility into the path between the probe network and your monitored endpoint.
Enable Traceroute is turned on by default.
When enabled, traceroute information can help identify where connectivity issues occur, including:
- ISP routing issues
- Network path changes
- Intermediate connection failures
- Regional connectivity problems
You can disable traceroute for checks where path analysis is not required.
Managing Probe Availability Behavior
Network checks use available probes to perform monitoring requests from selected locations and networks. In some cases, a selected location or network may not have any available probes. This can happen if a probe goes offline or if coverage is no longer available for the selected network.
When creating a Network Check, you can choose how the check should behave if no probes are available. This setting allows you to control whether the check remains available or enters a failed state when monitoring cannot be performed.
Available options:
- UP — The check remains in an available state when no probes are found; this is the default behavior
- DOWN — The check enters a failed state when no probes are found.
If probe availability changes after a check has been created, the check will follow the behavior configured for the no-probe setting. The check status will only change if the selected option is configured to do so.
To improve monitoring reliability, we recommend selecting multiple locations or networks whenever possible. Highly specific location and network combinations may have fewer available probes, which can impact monitoring coverage. Expanding your selected locations or networks can help restore probe availability and provide more consistent results. If a small range of location and network combinations are selected, the check may be performed on a different server according to their availability.
